I hope you are having an excellent summer!

I suspect you may be off doing field work, generating tons of awesome data=
for your project, or thinking about how you will package it together to te=
ll a compelling story. You might also be thinking about learning R to impro=
ve the reproducibility and rigor of your analyses and will help you to make=
attractive data visualizations. Sure, tools like mothur will help you proc=
ess raw sequencing data, but they can only get you so far until you need so=
mething customized for your biological questions. This is where many have f=
ound R to be enormously helpful. Further, if you aren=E2=80=99t even thinki=
ng about sequence data, R will help you analyze any data you have and will =
serve you as you continue in your career.=20

I will be teaching a 3 day R workshop from August 28-30 near the Detroit a=
irport. The workshop is being filled on a first come, first served basis. T=
he workshop is geared towards people with interests in microbial ecology th=
at would like to learn R or to learn it better. So you shouldn't feel like =
this isn't for you if you are a beginner. I assume no previous computer pro=
gramming experience. The workshop is an even blend of lecture/discussion an=
d hands on use of R with real data and typically uses mothur output files a=
s a starting point. Here is a rough outline of the content that past worksh=
ops have covered. We will make extensive use of packages from within the ti=
dyverse like ggplot2 and dplyr:

Ordination
Stripcharts and box and whisker plots
Line plots
Barcharts
Subsetting data
Reading and writing data
Basic parametric and non-parametric analyses

Each day there will be a lecture and discussion interspersed with hands-on=
activities. The session will run from 9 to 5 with a lunch break in the mi=
ddle. Unfortunately, the internet connection in the room is not strong enou=
gh to facilitate remote learners.=20

Please let me know if you would like additional details about costs, hotel=
reservations, and registration.

Pat

serve you as you continue in your career.=20

Pat

I suspect you may be off doing field work, generating tons of awesome data =
for your project, or thinking about how you will package it together to tel=
l a compelling story. You might also be thinking about learning R to improv=
e the reproducibility and rigor of your analyses and will help yo=
u to make attractive data visualizations. Sure, tools like mothur will help=
you process raw sequencing data, but they can only get you so far until yo=
u need something customized for your biological questions. This is where ma=
ny have found R to be enormously helpful. Further, if you aren=E2=80=99t ev=
en thinking about sequence data, R will help you analyze any data you have =
and will serve you as you continue in your career.
