Previous Booting Method on Intel x86 Hardware

• Power On and ROM Loaded Bios
• Hard Wired to begin processing core instructions
• Memory location FFFF:0000 is always the first instruction that the CPU is begin executing with
• BIOS (Basic In and Out System) Runs on 16 bit real time architecture
• Uses a 16 bit addressing Scheme to address all system memory
• Networking Booting allowed through BOOTP and TFTP
• The BIOS resets and loads a PC at the top of the one megabyte real mode address space which is where the BIOS program is resident.
