Imagine a Windowed person running into this early in their foray into
gnu/linux. It would be enough to make them run right into Bill's arms
forever.
What is a viable solution for mess' like this easy enough for a newbie to
handle?

I almost always install all apache stuff by hand, but decided to go with the
Redhat RPM
systems for our 2 year old 6.2 VA Server.
So I decided, OK, I'm impressed enough with PHPGROUPWARE to give it a try.
Auch.
RPM's SUCK RPM's SUCK RPM's SUCK, and so does the debian shit.
First, I discovered that Postreg needs to be at least version 7 for
PHPGROUPWARE. Guess what, no 6.2 pgsql 7 version for Redhat 6.2.
So I uninstall postgres and instead install by hand postgres 7. whatever.
PHPgroupware STILL doesn't work. Seems to not want to connect to the
database...
Fooey
PHP is not built with database support. grrr
So now I search the web and find a fix for the RPM's source file.
IT DOESN'T freaken compile. It's missing a half dozen RPM packages (which I
thnk it isn't)
and one of them is POSTGRES.
Damn
So now I need to compile PHP by hand and find out the locations for the ldap
librairies, postress
libraies and where everything for apache, which is all over the damn hard
drive.
I mean, I could just as well build the whole damn system again by hand. WHo
needs Red Hat.
This is the kind of thing that makes Redhat want to make me puke.
I have to walk accross the har drive now and figure out where half a dozen
subsystems are
built.
