Not everyone has your celebraty and can ignor the economic impact of their decision making. People need to eat. And as free people, they will make decisions based on bread basket issues every time.
Factually speaking, part-time volunteers develop most free software. They need to have money to live on, but it is not necessary for free software developers to be making their income from the free software development they do.
When we can find more ways to enable people to have jobs developing free software, that is very good. I support efforts to work on making this easier. I just ask people not to paint the situation as desperate when it isn't.
