fact #1 we can not do everything
fact #2 In this case if PHP is what they want we do not have a proven
curriculum for PHP that will serve their goals in a timely manner.
fact #3 Perl has great potential for use in a math curriculum because of
its roots in fortran and regular expressions. Im planing to start work on
a curriculum for regents math in perl.
fact #3 PHP is only usefull for web based interfaces.
fact #4 The internet boom is dead and will probably not be revived
fact #5 many of the schools represented here want to or are already
teaching java and or java script. Perl is a closer match than PHP which
will simplify the teaching of two languages.
im not saying we try to force them into any thing just try to pursuade
them to use something which will serve both of our goals. since we have
limited recources our goals would be better served by acting as a mediary
to conect them with a group such as NYPHP which is far better equiped to
help them than we are. doing this is not detrimental to our goals or the
image of our organization in fact it would only sevre to improve our
image. The point here is quality if we dont go in there with a rock solid
curriculm to teach them then they wont ask for our help again. we have a
rock solid Perl curriculm we dont have one for PHP. remember we are
dealing with vetrian teachers if they thin you are unperpaired to teach
them for even a split second they wont come back fro a second session and
may not stay for all of the first. you have to walk in with home work for
them and a percise realistic sylibus and copies for the whole class.
