Well I personally never doubted it. Over 10 years or so now, I've seen
a lot of kids that use Linux and Open Source (Firefox) on Windows. One
long-term issue is that there isn't enough exposure. And the other big
thing is the perennial plauge of desktop Linux is the media related
stuff. For example, still no legal way to play an encrypted DVD. And
from what I hear, DRM is alive and well and coming soon to much of the
content the average user wants to consume. Don't have Netflix on your
GNU/Linux desktop? Neither does anyone else. Most of the games kids
want to play still don't run on Linux.
