There are a few different tools but I'm not sure which ones are on opensuse since i stopped using that distro a few years ago you might try pmount incidentally have you tried XFCE yet it offers the best of both worlds its nearly as light as wmaker but has a lot of the nicer features such as auto mounting usb drives. XFCE is so nice and light it finally got me to stop using AfterStep all together which was my favorite desktop environment since 1996.
