Shell Basics and Emacs can be done in a day. GIMP can be done in a day IF t=
hey have PhotoShop experience. Installation can be done in a day as well, a=
s 2/2007 showed at the Ubuntu/Google conference and installfest, and they o=
nly gave us 1/2 a day to do it!

The Perl stuff will take a whole course, with just barely scratching the su=
rface if you do a 1 day intro.

the library, but I not interested in doing a serious class without
commitment, to have people float in and out, and drop out because
halfway through new people can't get in properly or everyone else
decided to spend their Tuesday nights at the Malted Shop.

Secondly, we have a rather large program developed, and if we did this,
then I think I'd want to start from the ground up...

Shell basics, vi, Unix Power tools, GNU instllation and basic
adminstration, Perl, C, OO-Perl, C++

more or less in that order

And then I'd like to see another track that I had never developed with I
do want which is application usage:

general desktop application overview
gimp
emacs
libre-office
gnucash
inkscape
blender
firefox
thunderbird

some can be done in a day.=A0 Some deserve some serious study.

GIMP can be done in a day IF they have PhotoShop experience. Installation c=
an be done in a day as well, as 2/2007 showed at the Ubuntu/Google conferen=
ce and installfest, and they only gave us 1/2 a day to do it!

The Pe=
rl stuff will take a whole course, with just barely scratching the surface =
if you do a 1 day intro.

Proposal to NYLUG

~~~~~~~~~~~~
I don't
know
I'm thinking of doing a workup of a regular program for Tuesda=
y nights
that NYLXS can co-bill with NYLUG, FWIW.  I'm sure that is=
not in itself
a program.  But there are a couple of things that bo=
ther me.  First,
I've been involved in education with Free Software=
now since 2000 and it
seems to me that nobody respects of commits serio=
usly to a program if
they don't pay something for it.  There needs =
to be some kind of
payment.  I don't know what Meetup does with NYL=
UG and how it involves
the library, but I not interested in doing a seri=
ous class without
commitment, to have people float in and out, and drop =
out because
halfway through new people can't get in properly or everyone=
else
decided to spend their Tuesday nights at the Malted Shop.
S=
econdly, we have a rather large program developed, and if we did this,
t=
hen I think I'd want to start from the ground up...
Shell
basics, vi, Unix Power tools, GNU instllation and basic
adminstration, =
Perl, C, OO-Perl, C++
more or less in that order
And then I'd=
like to see another track that I had never developed with I
do want whi=
ch is application usage:
general desktop application overview
gim=
p
emacs
libre-office
gnucash
inkscape
blender
firefox
=
thunderbird
some can be done in a day.  Some deserve some serio=
us study.
Ruben
