Different Top500 Benchmarks Deliver Different Top Supercomputer Lists
The 50th TOP500 semi-annual ranking of the world’s supercomputers was announced earlier this week. The topmost positions are largely unchanged from the list’s previous edition, with China’s Sunway TaihuLight and Tianhe-2 supercomputers at No. 1 and No. 2. But the normal ranking, which is biased toward peak processor speed, was accompanied by a separate ranking, more representative how the number-crunching behemoths would handle real-world problems. Let’s just say, the second list was significantly different from the first.

Different Top500 Benchmarks Deliver Different Top Supercomputer Lists
