News FAA offers $160,000 air traffic control jobs in New York

NEW YORK (PIX11) – The Federal Aviation Administration is hiring New Yorkers for positions at its air traffic control facilities. The average controller earns more than $160,000 annually, according to the FAA.
From August 8 -15, New Yorkers can apply to be an entry-level air traffic controller for a facility on Long Island. More Local News
“Entry-level applicants must complete required training courses and spend several months at the FAA Academy in Oklahoma City. After graduating from the academy, individuals are placed in locations across the country and must gain 1-3 years of on-the-job experience before becoming a certified professional controller,” read a section on training for the position. To be eligible for this job, the applicant must:
Be a U.S. citizen Speak English fluently Be younger than 31 years of age at the time of the application period Have either one year of full-time work experience or higher education Be physically and mentally fit according to standards set by the agency

Submitting an application Taking an air traffic skills assessment exam And passing a medical and security clearance

There is a paid training period of $22.61 for academy training, according to the FAA website.
Pay increases will be implemented once the training period is completed.
The FAA notes that employees receive a generous benefits package for this job, including a retirement plan, leave, and flexible spending options for employees and their families. Air traffic controllers are also eligible for early retirement and a special retirement annuity calculation.
