I am not sure why you would write that since neither you or the MTA would have a better knowledge of the systems routes than I have. FWIW, if one had to go to say, Pfizer on 2nd Avenue and 42nd Street, or old MetLife building on Park Avenue South and 23rd, or Baruch College on Lex and 21st, or the UN on 46th and 1st Avenue, or Tutor City and Cooper Village, (Not to mention the Brooklyn Museum since this is shutting EVERYTHING down to Utica Avenue) etc etc etc... you are just out of LUCK with the east side IRT shut down. Your only possible public transportation is the 2nd and 3rd avenue Bus!! or to get off on the West Side at Times Square or 34th Street and bus it Eastward or just walk it.
You can take the F to second Avenue and take a bus. It feels like 1879 ALL OVER again when folks took the train over the Brooklyn Bridge and had to connect by foot to the Canal street station and Brooklyn Bridge station to get to work.
For me, I am going to E183rd St and Jerome Avenue in the BRONX which is services only by the 4 Train. I don't know what kind of zoo will be at grand central, but I probably will have to make a transfer at 148th street in the Bronx, which is not an easy connection, or transfer with the Q at 34th street, for the D, to Yankee Stadium for the 4 train...
All of which will add more than an hour to my ride. 34th street is a zoo and smells bad and is overrun by homeless, and so is Times Square for that matter.
As for the Cement problem, the MTA is FULL OF CRAP. The cement can't be reasonably fixed without structural work done on the whole tunnel because it is persistant water damage that they NEVER ACCOUNTED for when they replaced the switches a few years ago... and BTW... they pulled out the functional manual operated switches and signals for delicate electronic junk that can't survive in those tunnels and not everyone has forgotten that it was not so long ago that the entire BEDROAD for the Eastside was rebuilt just a few years ago. So they have a LOT to explain for any city council member who would actually want to take this on.
What we need is a passengers Bill of Rights and mandatory fare refunds when the MTA fails to provide minimum standards of service... which is ALL the time.
And that is before we get into the real problems with OMNY which steals your money... and the public hasn't quite caught on yet. But it is coming.
