District News
Dear Neighbor,
As the days grow longer and spring (slowly) rolls in, I'm reminded how grateful I am for the opportunity to serve you and your family.
This winter brought challenges, especially when it came to rising heating costs. Thanks to outreach from our office and strong community partners, we were able to help over 1300 households across our district access heating assistance and keep their homes warm.
As we transition into the warmer months, I also want to remind eligible seniors about the Senior Citizen Homeowners’ Exemption (SCHE), which can significantly reduce property taxes for qualifying homeowners. The application deadline is March 15th, and my office is available to help residents determine eligibility and complete the application before the deadline.
As always, my team and I remain ready to assist with whatever you may need—from housing and utility issues to navigating state services. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to our office if we can help connect you with programs, answer questions, or advocate on your behalf.
Sincerely,
Legislative Highlights
Senator Sutton is proud to sponsor the Licensure Incentives and Fee-Support for Testing (LIFT) Act to reduce financial barriers for aspiring social workers. The bill would direct the State Education Department to create a voucher program to help eligible low-income individuals cover the cost of the licensing exams required to become a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
By helping prospective social workers afford their exams, the LIFT Act seeks to expand access to the profession and support workforce development in critical mental health and human services fields across New York.
