If you don't mind my sticking my nose in here, you're both correct in
what you believe, and the trick is to combine these two approaches.
Five months will go by quickly, but if you're doing classes before then,
it's more likely you'll actually get the
plan-that-happens-over-five-months to happen five months from now.
Action attracts participants, donors, and volunteers, and also helps you
keep focused on getting things done.
Now I have a question for you both, and it's a serious question.... why
do you need to meet somewhere for these classes? Is there a lot of
interaction between the students? I took a Perl I and II class at ZDU
back in 1997(?). It consisted of an instructor, a message board, an
online chat thing, and a textbook that obviously came off a photocopy
machine somewhere. I'd do it again. And the tools that are available
today are a lot better.
