Momentum is building against the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the
Protect IP Act (PIPA) =97 bills in the House and Senate that could open the
door to online censorship.

Yesterday six senators sent a letter urging Senate Majority Leader Harry
Reid to delay the vote and give the Senate more time to consider First
Amendment concerns. And the White House just said it "will not support
legislation that reduces freedom of expression ... or undermines the
dynamic, innovative global Internet."

Meanwhile, Sens. Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand continue to support
this dangerous and unnecessary bill, which is scheduled for a vote in less
than two weeks.

Free Press is joining with N.Y. Tech Meetup =97 an influential group of
technology entrepreneurs and investors in New York City =97 in *an emergenc=
y
rally this Wednesday at 12:30 p.m.* to pressure Sens. Schumer and
Gillibrand to end their support for PIPA. Hundreds have already signed up
to attend; I hope you can make it too.

Here are the details:

- *What*: Emergency NY Tech Meetup to Stop PIPA and SOPA
- *Where*: Outside the offices of Sens. Charles Schumer and Kirsten
Gillibrand, 780 Third Ave. (at 49th St.), New York
- *When*: Wednesday, Jan. 18., 12:30 - 2 p.m.

You can go to this Meetup page to
RSVP:http://act2.freepress.net/go/8171?akid=3D3200.9292327.c8TaQh&t=3D2p://freepress.actionkit.com/go/8172?akid=3D3200.9292327.c8TaQh&t=3D1>

This rally is shaping up to be a big event. Please come if you can!
