I've been very happy with my lenovo thinkpad X120e
It has an AMD Fusion chip which is AMD's answer to the Intel Atom with a
builtin radeon chip on the CPU. Essentialy its a netbook in a grownup
laptop case which is great. At just over 2 pounds it has a 14 inch wide
screen a full size keyboard the clasic thinkpad double mouse with 3
buttons. The best feature of all it has a full size battery which is why
its over 2 pounds it actully gets upto 9 hours of battery life while in
actual use with the extended battery even though it says 8 hours in the
spec. The best part is no propriatary drivers even the radeon chip is
supported by the kernel native framebuffer driver so setup was a breaze.

HP Pavilion dm1-4310e: Swapping Windows 8 for Linux

Summary: Windows 8 is OUT on my next-generation Pavilion dm1, and Linux =97=
in the shape of Fedora 18, openSuSE 12.3, Mint 14 and Ubuntu 12.10 =97 is =
IN.

Well, this has been quite a learning experience, to say the very least. It =
has been /unprintable,/ to say the very most. I have been watching for the =
next generation in the HP Pavilion dm1 line for some time now, as my curren=
t dm1-3105ez has become one of my favorite laptops =97 despite its detested=
Synaptic 'ClickPad' pointing device.

I had a dm1-4010 for a short time (long enough to see that it didn't ha=
ve a ClickPad, and that it worked very nicely with Linux), but then I passe=
d it along to a friend. The other difference between those two was that the=
3105 had an AMD E-350 CPU, while the 4010 had an E-450, so I have been wat=
ching to see what the next generation would have.

Last week I came across a dm1-4310, which has an AMD E2-1800 (Dual Core) CP=
U, Radeon HD7340 graphic controller, 11.6in. 1366x768 display and NO ClickP=
ad. Hooray, that's what I've been waiting for!

The only problem was that it comes with Windows 8 preloaded, but I figured =
I'm going to have to bite the bullet and have a go at Windows 8 sooner =
or later, so why not. The good news was that I checked the specifications v=
ery carefully, and there was no mention of "UEFI" or "Secure=
Boot" or "Made for Windows 8", so at least I shouldn't =
have to fight with that yet.

I've been very happy with my lenovo thinkpad X120e

It has an AMD Fusion chip which is AMD's answer to the Intel Atom with =
a builtin radeon chip on the CPU. Essentialy its a netbook in a grownup lap=
top case which is great. At just over 2 pounds it has a 14 inch wide screen=
a full size keyboard the clasic thinkpad double mouse with 3 buttons. The =
best feature of all it has a full size battery which is why its over 2 poun=
ds it actully gets upto 9 hours of battery life while in actual use with th=
e extended battery even though it says 8 hours in the spec. The best part i=
s no propriatary drivers even the radeon chip is supported by the kernel na=
tive framebuffer driver so setup was a breaze.

HP Pavilion dm1-4310e: Swapping Windows 8 for Linux
