Grants for the Arts: 2014 Application Seminars

Every year, Brooklyn Arts Council distributes approximately $350,000 to
help fund hundreds of projects by Brooklyn artists and organizations in
all artistic disciplines though BAC Community Arts Grants. Capacity
building grants are also available for Brooklyn arts nonprofits, and
arts education funding is available for Brooklyn artists and
organizations partnering with local schools.

We?re holding application seminars for the Community Arts Fund and Local
Arts Support grants throughout August and in September. These seminars
include an overview of the grant opportunities, an explanation of the
application process, tips on writing a successful grant application, a
Q&A session and an opportunity to meet BAC staff and other applicants.
We are also hosting application seminars for the JPMorgan Chase Regrant
and Arts Education Partner Grant in October.
View the complete list of seminars and RSVP online now.

Folk Arts Meet-up: Grant Application Preparedness

Wednesday, August 28, 6-8pm
Brooklyn Arts Council
55 Washington Street, #218
Our August Folk Arts Meet-up teaches traditional artists to complete a
grant application budget as well as compose excellent support materials
for their BAC Community Arts Grant application. We?ll also review
project narrative statements at this workshop.
Please note: This Meet-up does NOT substitute for attending an official
BAC Grant Application Seminar. Rather, it will give you additional
guidance and support for the traditional arts project you want to do in
2014. Please attend a BAC Grant Application Seminar prior to this meet-up.

RSVP to Kay Turner, Folk Arts Director, kturner-at-brooklynartscouncil.org

Arts in Education Spotlight:
Our Year in Numbers & Photos

Caption: A student is overjoyed sharing his self-portrait during a
visual arts residency with teaching artist Abigail Weg. Photo: Misun Jin.

Before we dive into another school year, we?re excited to share our
accomplishments in 2012-13. BAC Arts in Education had programming in all
5 boroughs including 103 school-based residencies and workshops, 18
creative aging programs in senior centers and 87 performances at
schools, senior centers and parks. These programs served nearly 20,000
students, teachers, parents and seniors and provided 343 gigs for
artists. We also had our first photo documentation intern, who helped us
capture inspiring moments during these programs. Check out our Flickr
slideshow.

Fiscal Sponsorship Spotlight:
STEM from Dance

The award-winning, BAC Fiscally sponsored project, STEM from Dance,
harnesses the power of dance to empower underserved women to pursue a
STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education. Using dance
to build and transfer confidence and academic readiness, the program
effectively equips students with the skills needed to thrive in the STEM
fields, which are known to be quite rigorous. Help them to realize
their goals by supporting their Indigogo fundraising campaign. For more
information on STEM from Dance visit their website. Learn more about BAC
Fiscal Sponsorship.
