Prof. Dr. Katja Schenke-Layland currently holds a dual appointment as
Professor of Biomedical Technologies and Regenerative Medicine at the
University Women’s Hospital at the Eberhard Karls University Tübingen
(UKT), and the Director of the Natural and Medical Sciences Institute
(NMI) Reutlingen, Germany. See all Keynote Speakers EMBS MOOC is
BACK!!!! It's Baaack! The #EMBS #MOOC, "So you want to be a
#BiomedicalEngineer" is now back on EdX! Now is the time to finish your
work and get your certificate! Visit MOOC NER'19 Program Available The
schedule for the IEEE NER'19 conferences well as on the online program
has been published on the conference website. Please check the website
for details. See More IEEE-ICORR 2019 Final Call for Papers The 16th
IEEE/RAS-EMBS International Conference on Rehabilitation Robotics (ICORR
2019) focuses on theoretical and experimental issues in the fields of
Rehabilitation Robotics and Neuroscience applied to Healthcare.
Prosthetic, assistive, diagnostic, and therapeutic robots. These topics
continue to face common challenges of adoption by the users. This
year’s meeting, subtitled “Clinical Choices,” will provide an
opportunity to shape this discussion by bringing together individuals
interested in real-life applications together with robotics experts and
commercial providers from around the world. This year the conference
will be held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada as part of RehabWeek, from June
24–28, 2019. See More See More IEEE BHI-BSN 2019 - Industry Showcase
BHI-BSN 2019 is proud to present the 2nd edition of our industry
showcase, highlighting some of the most innovative new products in the
market. We are delighted that one of last year’s finalists translated
their innovation into a successful start-up, receiving $4M in seed
funding, and we are excited to see more innovative products this year.
This year’s focus will be on preventive healthcare. We highly
encourage companies with promising new products to apply by February 28,
2019. Register Register Now for ISBI 2019 and Clinical Day! The IEEE
International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging (ISBI) is a scientific
conference dedicated to mathematical, algorithmic, and computational
aspects of biological and biomedical imaging. The 2019 meeting will be
held in Venice, Italy, from April 8-11. ISBI's Clinical Day is a
day-long special session with a focus on modern applications of
neuroimaging to motor neuron disease, traumatic brain injury, and
psychiatry. More Information New Quantitative Approach to Autism
Diagnosis Trained clinicians can diagnose autism by the time a child is
two years old, and proven-beneficial therapies can then start right
away. Unfortunately, the average age of autism diagnosis in the United
States is 4.3 years. Part of the solution may be a new and quantitative
strategy to diagnose autism through development of an assay for
biomarkers associated with certain subtypes of ASD. Stemina Biomarker
Discovery of Madison, Wisconsin, and its diagnostic division
NeuropointDX, recently released results showing that it had identified
an alteration in amino acid metabolism in nearly one in five children
with autism, and had developed a tool to detect it. See Full Article
IEEE EMBS Benelux Chapter Activities at the Dutch Conference on
Biomedical Engineering The Dutch BME Conference is the leading
conference on Biomedical Engineering in the Netherlands, and it is
organized every other year. It collects about 300 PhD students and
researchers presenting their scientific work through poster and oral
presentations. This year the conference took place in Egmond aan Zee
(Netherlands) on January 24-25, 2019. A job market was organized with
the aim to bring the students in contact with relevant companies in the
field of biomedical engineering. The IEEE EMBS Benelux Chapter is always
present at this conference with an invited distinguished lecturer, the
Best IEEE EMBS Paper Award, and the yearly Chapter Meeting. In
particular, this year the Chapter has invited the IEEE EMBS
distinguished lecturer prof. Bart ter Haar Romenij to talk about
computer vision algorithms for medical image analysis. The winner of the
best paper competition were Thomas van den Heuvel et al. (Radboud UMC
Nijmegen) with the paper on the "Development of a Low-Cost Medical
Ultrasound Scanner Using a Monostatic Synthetic Aperture", published in
IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Circuits and Systems (2017). A great
example of research with an immediate social impact. The conference
also hands out the Henk Stassen Award for the best young researcher
which was given to Dr. Rik Vullings of the Eindhoven University of
Technology. See Full Article Successful "Open MR" symposium sponsored by
the IEEE EMBS Benelux Chapter OpenMR Benelux: an open science event for
the field of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine. We aim to create an
inclusive community of researchers, engineers and scientists that foster
and improve upon open science practices in the field of MRI. On 16
January 2019 in Leiden, Netherlands, we hosted our first event as a
pre-event to the annual meeting of the ISMRM Benelux. The focus was on
open discussion in a variety of topics introduced by experts in
respective fields, including open tools for machine learning
applications in MRI; data and code sharing practices; the role of
mentoring in facilitating academic careers; and the future of open
access publishing. Attendees found the event highly engaging and
appreciated the time given for open discussion. We are very happy with
the result and aim to make this an annual event! Call for Papers See

at risk for developmental delays. Call for EMBS Award Nominations EMBS
sponsors 12 Awards of member recognition for technical and professional
excellence, service to the society, local activities, publications and
student papers. The deadline for nomination is MARCH 15, 2019. Submit
Nomination New opportunities for chapter awards this year! We would
like to extend the chance to nominate a EMBS Chapter or an EMBS Student
Chapter/Club for an award this year. To promote geographic diversity
within the society and to be able to recognize more chapters, EMBS is
introducing a NEW format and will present awards to 1 EMBS Chapter and 1
EMBS Student Chapter/Club per each EMBS Region. This new format will
provide more opportunity for chapter recognition than before. Be sure
your region has an award winner by nominating your local chapter!. The

International Summer School on Computer Modeling in Medicine The theme
for the 2019 summer school is "Image-based modeling for personalized
medical device design." Prominent experts from academia and industry
will cover fundamental concepts and current trends in model-based
medical device design. Hands-on tutorials with simulation software will
be presented to demonstrate application of concepts covered in lectures.
This summer school is primarily geared towards graduate students,
postdoctoral researchers, and individuals from the medical
device/imaging industry, with an interest in developing and applying
computational models for medical device design, analysis, and
evaluation. Invited lecturers with extensive experience in the field
will deliver lectures on topics including: Device models: mechanical,
electromagnetic, acoustic Device-tissue interactions: biomechanics,
biofluids, bioheat transfer, bioelectromagnetics Tissue/organ function
models For further information, please contact Dr. Dieter Haemmerich,
haemmer-at-musc.edu, or Dr. Punit Prakash, prakashp-at-ksu.edu . Applications
