Hello mothur users!

We are happy to announce the release of mothur v.1.46.0
. Over the past few
months we=E2=80=99ve incorporated a number of little tweaks to mothur to ma=
ke it
run better by resolving some bugs and improving the overall usability.
We're particularly excited about two additions we've made that will
hopefully help address some long standing problems people have had with
analyzing ITS sequences and amino acid sequences. First, we have refactored
pairwise.seqs to use a heuristic to
reduce the number of distances that need to be calculated. The result is a
>99% decrease in execution time. Second, we have added several new distance
calculation methods to dist.seqs so
that you can now calculate pairwise distances between amino acid sequences.
Look for more functions in future releases for both ITS and amino acid
sequences! Please let us know what you think of these functions and what
other functionalities you'd like to see to make your ITS/amino acid
sequence workflows easier.

There's a couple of other items to let you know about to help you as you
navigate your way through learning more about data analysis. First, my
schedule for virtual workshops is up on
the Riffomonas website with a mothur workshop scheduled for September.
Second, I continue to post regular videos to the Riffomonas YouTube channel
. Finally, if you're looking
for more updates on Riffomonas and resources for strengthening your R
skills, I have a free weekly newsletter
that you can subscribe to. I've been encouraged by the positive feedback
I've received from the content on Riffomonas - let me know if there's
anything you'd like me to be sure to cover.

Enjoy the new release and stay safe!
Pat
