Event Content Coordinator / Manager

The Job:
The Linux Foundation is hiring an Event Content Coordinator/Manager
(position based on experience) to help provide speaker and content
support for our core and managed conferences and events which include
LinuxCon, CloudOpen, ApacheCon and many others. This is an outstanding
opportunity for the right person who wants to help shape conference
content for The Linux Foundation. We are looking for a highly
collaborative person who can work closely with our existing team to
continue to grow Linux Foundation events.

Who We Are Looking For:
You are highly organized and are comfortable helping coordinate calls
for participation (CFPs) and program committees for multiple events with
a range of technical topics at the same time. You love doing research,
learning about new and exciting technologies and people, and have
fantastic communication skills - both over email, telephone and in
person. You are familiar with Linux, open source and/or such topics as
Internet of Things, embedded computing and are aware of technology
trends and markets.

Key Responsibilities

Support our managed events by coordinating the CFP process and being
the point-of-contact for program committee members and chairs.
Organize the program into a conference schedule; liaise with
speakers, provide support during the submission phase and leading up to
event on items such as slide submissions, speaker cancellations and
replacements, pre-event details and post-event follow-up, assisting with
special requests and more.
Manage our travel fund request program; assisting with the process
of determining who to fund, following up with fund requests and acting
as the point of contact throughout the entire process, and requests for
reimbursement.
Help identify and research new and emergent technologies and the
people working on them to increase the presence of those at our events.
Assist with speaker outreach on behalf of managed events and senior
content team.
Outreach to and coordination of key people and projects who are
involved in our events; good communication and ability to be sensitive
to different groups and people.
Being a key part of our events content team to either support or own
content for various events

Skills & Knowledge

You are technically savvy. We don't require you to have a computer
science degree, but you know your way around technology enough to be
able to effectively review submissions for the events that you are
supporting. Topic areas include virtualization, security, kernel, cloud,
embedded Linux, IoT, etc.. You don't have to be an expert but an
understanding is needed.
You have experience with CMSs like Drupal and are familar with
Google Docs.
You have excellent email management skills.
Experience with IT journalism or technology conferences would be a
plus.
A familiarity with the Linux and open source community is an strong
asset that will impact the level of responsibility associated with this
role.
Highly sensitive and supportive; great communication is paramount,
and the ability to be inclusive and reach out to under-represented
communities to get them involved in our events.
