I wanted to let you know about an upcoming New York City Council
Committee on Technology in Government hearing that might be of interest
to you.
WHO: Council Member Gale A. Brewer and the Technology in Government
Committee
WHAT: Oversight Hearing on HHS-Connect
WHEN: Tuesday, June 24th, 2008, 1pm - 4pm
WHERE: Committee Room, City Hall
On June 24, 2008, the New York City Council Committee on Technology in
Government will hold an oversight hearing on HHS Connect. HHS-Connect is
a back-end solution that links the computer databases for the health and
human services agencies in New York City, creating one virtual case file
for every "client" that can be shared across agencies. Clients need only
put their personal and pertinent information online once and will be
included in a virtual integrated case file, which they can access and
update online. HHS-Connect offers New York City an opportunity to
greatly reduce paperwork for caseworkers, improving customer service by
enhancing the time spent with clients seeking City services. The program
is a unique step forward in transforming the interaction between New
Yorkers and the agencies that serve them, ultimately providing
heightened transparency, accountability of health and human services,
and more efficient services to the neediest New Yorkers. Where ACCESS
NYC allows clients to determine their own eligibility for government
services, HHS-Connect will allow the City to proactively determine if a
client serviced by one agency might be eligible for services by another
agency.
The Committee on Technology and Government seeks to further understand
how City agencies and databases will communicate with each other. The
Committee is interested in the current protocol for transferring clients
between agencies. The hearing will take place on June 24, 2008 in the
Committee Room in City Hall from 1 - 4PM.
