SUBJECT Subject: [hangout] FOSS Biz Solution Thoughts?

Hello Gang,

I have an RFP from a prospective client that is a perfect fit for free
software and they are keen to it. I sussed out a solution for them. But
once I delivered the proposal they realized that I gave them exactly what
they asked for but they had not told me the whole story. The oversight
changes the scope significantly and I was wondering what people thought
about solution wise.

Let me outline what they asked for. Here is a brief description:
-A field device will send data over the internet in the form of an email to
corporate facilities.
-Server will parse Sender, Subject, and Body fields
-Sender and Body data is piped to an account in SQL
-Body is piped to a C runtime and output is dumped into the SQL
account/field
-Webserver serves a Public corporate web presence
-Webserver also hosts Private "Subscriber" site where users log in to view
their data (pulled from SQL)

I figured this was simple enough to do in many ways, probably just do the
parsing and stuff via Procmail.
But they came back and said they needed to have numerous employees, all
around the country, log into an Admin tool to create and set-up new accounts
in the system. Keeping security in mind I am unsure of how to go... PHP
seems too insecure and I'm concerned Perl would be too costly for them.

If anyone has heard good things about another option, has an idea themselves
or can give me some input or a contact of someone who is right to discuss
this further with I'd appreciate it greatly.

And I'd love to be able to contract out the work (hi FSCC :)... I'm jammed
and don't have time to learn on the job!
Thanks

Regards,
~Ray
