I am responding to the minutes of the meeting on March 6th.
I understand from speaking with Michael that you want to resume the fund raising
The issue, for us, becomes one of commitment to the cause and collaboration. At
the beginning of the NYLXS Grant Project all of the committee members were
fired up. I attended no less than three classes on Grant proposals at the
Foundation Center. I spent my own time and money on this effort. When I needed
paper for printing out handout sheets to the members of the committee it was
donated to me by one of our members. I had an idea, in order to save us the
trouble of printing, I would Email the handouts. Not everyone would read them in
time for the meeting. All of the meetings had to be held in mid Manhattan due to
Members obligations to their jobs.
We had to schedule meetings in the middle of the afternoon to accomodate
different work schedules (weekends were never an option).
We were not given a budget so we did the best we could.
The stress within the group became obvious when people started to miss the
meetings. In order to keep us moving along I set up a meeting every two to four
The final bell tolled when one of the key members quite the Grant Project. I had
only two people left and one of the two could not make it to the meetings. The
hard work was just around the corner and I was not going to do it alone.
I am sure other members of the committee have their own reasons as to why things did not go according to plan.
I am writting this to Hangout mail since I feel that everyone in the group
should have an opportunity to respond to this very important issue. Without a
Grant you cant raise money for an organization. Many organizations have a Grants
department, some hire out professional grant writers. It takes a lot of work and
