First Circular

*Welcome!*

The Symposium on Dinosaur eggs and babies is the world=E2=80=99s most impor=
tant
meeting focused on paleoology, the science of fossil eggs, and in dinosaur
development and ontogeny. Started in 1999, it has been hosted every 3 to 4
years ever since, always representing a significant impulse to the science
of paleoology.

*Venue*

The VI Symposium on Dinosaur Eggs and Babies will take place in the Campus
da Caparica, in Monte da Caparica, a parish separated from Lisbon by the
Tagus River, and connected to the Lisbon Metropolitan area by metro, train,
bus and ship. Lisbon itself is a friendly, old, historical city, with a
mild climate. It is an ideal tourist destination and it offers various
attractions, including outstanding social and cultural experiences. Lisbon
was identified by the 2009 World Travel Awards as Europe=E2=80=99s Leading
Destination and Europe=E2=80=99s Leading City Break Destination. Lisbon wil=
l be the
2017 Ibero-American Capital of Culture, with a significant increase in the
already vast cultural offer of the city.

The Lisbon district is one of the global references for Late Jurassic
nests, eggs, and embryos. Since the late 1990s, discoveries around Lourinh=
=C3=A3
have attracted constant attention of vertebrate palaeontologists from all
over the world. The presence of nests containing embryonic remains of two
different theropod species, *Torvosaurus* and *Lourinhanosaurus*, is
unique. even more considering the rarity of Upper Jurassic eggs and
eggshells, known only from a handful of localities on the globe.
Specialists from all over the world have come to visit the specimens hold
in the Museu da Lourinh=C3=A3, serving as an indicator of the importance of
these findings.

*Organisation*

The congress is being organised within the Department of Earth Sciences and
the Research Centre in Geological Science and Engineering of the Faculty of
Science and Technology, Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

The organizational framework for the congress is as follows.

*Scientific Committee:*

We are currently working in making a selection of scientists that will form
the core of the Scientific Committee, including all the Chairs of sessions.
Prof. David Varricchio (Montana State Universty, USA) will act as head of
the Scientific committee. A complete list of members will soon be available
on the congress website.

*Host committee: *

Oct=C3=A1vio Mateus and Miguel Moreno Azanza (Universidade Nova de Lisboa,
Portugal), Bruno Pereira (GEAL, Muesu da Lourinha, Portugal)

*Student committee*

Francisco Costa, Jo=C3=A3o Marinheiro, Marco Marzola, Jo=C3=A3o Muchagata D=
uarte,
Jo=C3=A3o Russo, Andr=C3=A9 Saleiro, Dar=C3=ADo

*Scientific Program*

Presentations at the symposium span a diverse array of topics, including
fossil egg taxonomy, taphonomy, egg morphology, biogeography, eggshell
function, and dinosaur ontogeny. Presentations are not on dinosaurs only,
as sessions on other amniotes eggs and amniotes reproduction and
development are frequent.

For this edition, the proposed main topic will be *eggshell formation*. The
idea is to lay bridges between different disciplines involved in the study

Dear subscribers of the Dinosaur mailing list
It is with pleasure that the Organizing Committee announces the Sixth
Symposium on Dinosaur Eggs and Babies (DinoE&B 2017), to be held in
Lisbon, 3^rd?8^th October 2017.
Please find the first circular in this link:
[1]http://eventos.fct.unl.pt/dinoeggs/files/first_circular_vidinoeggsan
dbabies.pdf
We hope to see you all in Lisbon in less than a year
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

First Circular

Welcome!

The Symposium on Dinosaur eggs and babies is the world?s most important
meeting focused on paleoology, the science of fossil eggs, and in
dinosaur development and ontogeny. Started in 1999, it has been hosted
every 3 to 4 years ever since, always representing a significant
impulse to the science of paleoology.

Venue

The VI Symposium on Dinosaur Eggs and Babies will take place in the
Campus da Caparica, in Monte da Caparica, a parish separated from
Lisbon by the Tagus River, and connected to the Lisbon Metropolitan
area by metro, train, bus and ship. Lisbon itself is a friendly, old,
historical city, with a mild climate. It is an ideal tourist
destination and it offers various attractions, including outstanding
social and cultural experiences. Lisbon was identified by the 2009
World Travel Awards as Europe?s Leading Destination and Europe?s
Leading City Break Destination. Lisbon will be the 2017 Ibero-American
Capital of Culture, with a significant increase in the already vast
cultural offer of the city.

The Lisbon district is one of the global references for Late Jurassic
nests, eggs, and embryos. Since the late 1990s, discoveries around
Lourinhã have attracted constant attention of vertebrate
palaeontologists from all over the world. The presence of nests
containing embryonic remains of two different theropod species,
Torvosaurus and Lourinhanosaurus, is unique. even more considering the
rarity of Upper Jurassic eggs and eggshells, known only from a handful
of localities on the globe. Specialists from all over the world have
come to visit the specimens hold in the Museu da Lourinhã, serving as
an indicator of the importance of these findings.

Organisation

The congress is being organised within the Department of Earth Sciences
and the Research Centre in Geological Science and Engineering of the
Faculty of Science and Technology, Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

The organizational framework for the congress is as follows.

Scientific Committee:

We are currently working in making a selection of scientists that will
form the core of the Scientific Committee, including all the Chairs of
sessions. Prof. David Varricchio (Montana State Universty, USA) will
act as head of the Scientific committee. A complete list of members
will soon be available on the congress website.

Host committee:

Octávio Mateus and Miguel Moreno Azanza (Universidade Nova de Lisboa,
Portugal), Bruno Pereira (GEAL, Muesu da Lourinha, Portugal)

Student committee

Francisco Costa, João Marinheiro, Marco Marzola, João Muchagata
Duarte, João Russo, André Saleiro, Dar?o

Scientific Program

Presentations at the symposium span a diverse array of topics,
including fossil egg taxonomy, taphonomy, egg morphology, biogeography,
eggshell function, and dinosaur ontogeny. Presentations are not on
dinosaurs only, as sessions on other amniotes eggs and amniotes
reproduction and development are frequent.

For this edition, the proposed main topic will be eggshell formation.
The idea is to lay bridges between different disciplines involved in
the study of the eggshell, including Palaeontology, Developmental
Biology, Poultry Science, and Materials Sciences.

The scientific programme also includes three plenary sessions. It is
intended that each of them will be focused in one of the main topics of
the meeting: eggshell and bone biomineralization, dinosaur eggs, and
dinosaur development.

Abstracts

Abstracts are to be submitted in English language, through the Congress
website. As in previous editions of the Symposium, the organization is

meeting focused on paleoology, the science of fossil eggs, and in
dinosaur development and ontogeny.

Abstracts

Abstracts are to be submitted in English language, through the Congress
website. As in previous editions of the Symposium, the organization is
negotiating to publish articles derived of the presented abstracts as a
special volume of Historical Biology
([2]http://www.tandfonline.com/loi/ghbi20)

Detailed instructions on abstract submission will soon be posted on the
Symposium web page [3]http://eventos.fct.unl.pt/dinoeggs

Submission period: 1^st January 2017 to 30^th April 2017

Formal notification of acceptance of abstracts: 31^st May 2017.

Language

The official language of the Congress is English and no translation
facilities will be available.

Field Trips

The post meeting field trip will be organized by the Museu da Lourinha,
house of an impressive collection of Portuguese vertebrate fossils, and
will include a visit to the spectacular outcrops of the Late Jurassic
of the Portuguese coast, that yielded the famous fossil clutches and
embryos, together with a highly diverse dinosaur fauna. The field day
will be completed with a guided tour to the Museu da Lourinhã, with
special emphasis on the palaeontology pavilion.

Registration

The registration link will be available after January 2^nd 2017. We are
working hard to have a reduced fee for all attendees, and special
discounts for students.

Accommodation

Lisbon offers a wide range of accommodation facilities, including
hostels and hotels of different prices and categories. Transport by bus
from Lisbon and Monte da Caparica to the congress venue and back will
be provided by the organization. Social events will take place on
Lisbon. In any case, the Campus of Caparica is easily accessible from
the Metropolitan area by train and ship. Detailed routes and maps will
be available at the symposium website.

Social Programme

The social programme for the congress is still being prepared. Various
social events will be organized for conference participants and
accompanying persons. These will include an Ice Break Party for the
first day of the symposium, a meeting dinner, and an optional tour
around Lisbon, including guide visit to the Geological Museum (to be
confirmed).

Congress participants are encouraged to explore their own options for
tourist activities. More details on social, cultural, and historical
attractions can be sought from the Lisbon?s Tourism Office
([4]www.visitlisboa.com).
