support the News production environments. We are looking for the best
and brightest to help drive the services and solutions developed as part
of the Media Technology Solutions group. We are working on exciting
technology that drives the entire workflow from producing and editing
video content all the way through archival, distribution and
re-purposing of the material. We deliver the services and solutions that
provide the backbone for the operations team of NBC News to deliver
award-wining content. As a DevOps Engineer, you will face challenges
managing the deployment of code to the various development systems used
in-house. You will be on the cutting edge supporting the various systems
used by the development team and the end-users through the entire
software lifecycle. About you: You own the command line whether in Linux
environments. You understand the importance redundant deployments for
large-scale systems. You are a team player, expecting the best of
yourself and those on your team. You are the glue between developers,
support, and infrastructure speaking everyones languages. Essential
Responsibilities: Create deployment packages and deploy to Test, QA and
Production environment. Work with support team to schedule deployment to
various environments. Configure Test, QA and Production environments
with proper packages and dependencies to enable development. Perform
system administration activities. Manage and maintain the development
repository. Perform upgrades / apply fixes on open source software and
in-house developed software. Provide 24x7 L2 support on open source and
in house developed software. Perform application debugging,
troubleshooting and escalate issues to appropriate team. Identify
automation opportunities within development and support teams, and
develop appropriate scripts. Implement application monitoring system.
Perform systems & applications usage, metrics and trend analysis
reports. Support unit, volume, security, network, redundancy and overall
system testing. Train L1 support team on supporting in-house developed
application. Work with support team to create support documentation.
Qualifications/Requirements Basic Qualifications: Degree in Computer
Science OR equivalent work experience. Understanding of software
architecture grounded in a minimum of 5 years of software development
and configuration experience. Experience administering and managing a
GNU/Linux environment for development, including package management and
basic system administration. Minimum 5 years working with IT systems,
with a solid understanding of network protocols and standards (e.g. DNS,
TCP, HTTP, FTP, SSH) Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Oracle
Enterprise Linux and/or Ubuntu server. Experience with either of these
Configuration Management tools (Chef, Puppet, Saltstack) Minimum 5 years
working with relational databases and SQL, ideally on Microsoft SQL
Server environment. Minimum 3 years experience working with backend
software (preferably Python-based) or other scripting languages.
Experience working with software developed against documented
third-party APIs and working with vendors to identify and correct issues
and drive enhancements. Excellent verbal and written communication
skills. Desired Characteristics Experience with high-volume data
migration projects. Experience working with Agile and Scrum
methodologies for software development and project execution. Experience
with monitoring systems like Splunk, Zenoss. Experience with NoSQL
database management and deployment. Proficiency using HTML/CSS/AJAX in a
production environment to design and build an effective UX Familiarity
with Liferay
