they haven't blocked any of my ports for 18months. i use a netgear router that allows me to spoof the mac address and, at the time, was a lttle more flexible that the linksys as it did automatic ddns.they have probed my system a couple of times, most of the scans are from their customers trying to run scripts. i drop any connections specifically from them, in any case. they lost 60 billion dollars last quarter. i don't know that they're in a position to be cutting of service.
that said, i'm sure they're as bad as the rest of the ip's, when it comes to their monopolistic pricing/bandwidth policies. (after all, the federal, state, and local governments gave them unregulated monopolies, so why shouldn't they be in a position to dictate. notwithstanding that it is the same as telling me what words i'm allowed to use when i talk on the phone).
anyway, they give you a free 60days, so there's not much harm in trying it. they have a self-install now, for the network, so you don't have to have some idiot show up to "configure" the service and tell you the only support mac and windows...
they're jerks, of course, but so are all the dsl guys who are requiring ppoe, which is a bigger pain in the ass and more restrictive.
