hey i noticed something in your /etc/sasl2/smtpd.conf
"pwcheck_method: saslauthd" means that you have the saslauthd service
running and proxying the mechanism. This is commonly used to add
Kerberos support for things that only support the PLAIN and LOGIN
mechanisms.
now it may actually be useful to run it with with the pam or getpwent
methods see https://linux.die.net/man/8/saslauthd but if you have sasl
configured to use saslauthd and dont have saslauthd running you break
it.
The reason I recommend this is that by default if there is a
sasl_password.db file present the PLAIN and LOGIN methods will use
that as the source of truth unless you use saslauthd to redirect it to
the method you actually want to use.
Also the mechanism names in the configuration need to be capitalized.
You have them lower case. and I ecoment if you are going to use PLAIN
or LOGIN you should use both.

Also i see mention of a sasl_passwd and sasl_passwd.db file that is a
big no no for what you are trying to achieve those should not be
there. its essentially the sasl equivalent of a htpassword file.in
apache.

Why that is so escapes me at the moment. The server on the receiving end is set to not authenticate, which does raise the question of why it seems to be attempting to at all. In any case, I submit below the output of postfinger and saslfinger as the debugging page suggests. I see some of the information in each section is redundant, but I did not want to risk causing any further confusion and consternation.
