SUBJECT Re: [NYLXS - HANGOUT] Has anyone else seen these
I've been asleep in that cave called work. In addition I've been
distracted by the process of looking for a new job. I agree its not
quite as versitile as your old picture book but in some ways its better.
What realy got my attention about it was the crowd it was drawing. Its
realy the first linux device I've seen do that. I think there are three
factors that are in its favor the price, the simple interface and the
fact that people are finaly getting fedup with microsoft. For the first
time I can remember the majority of windows users I speak to don't want
the latest microsoft os (vista)on their computers. Dispite eric ramonds
coments about linux as a desktop os in the linux journal a few months
ago this gives me hope that GNU Linux will be widly adopted as a desktop
os by the general public. For the average pc user the only reasons they
buy full PC's is because they want microsoft office or they don't know
there is an alternitive. Lets face it video game consoles are much
better for video games than most PC's. The hassle that most users have
with their home PC is making them feed up. This device has the potential
to allow users to see their are viable alternitives to microsoft windows
and even microsoft office. Has any one tried to loby Gale Brewer about
this. Specificaly her little group in the city councle is always looking
for a way to get pc's to under privleged neighbor hoods. Starting at 300
this fits the bill. In addition there are schools that would be
intrested in this because it would be easy for them to get grants to
give these to their students. I think there needs to be a full P.R.
campian launched around this device.
