Some things are just intolerable in the marketplace. Certainly we
should be patient with companies just as we should with people. After
all, companies are merely groups of people. And it is a good thing to
help one another earn a living. Yes, even if they don't do such a great
job.
But there are real limits to what can and cannot be put up with.
Creative Labs seems to have clearly overstepped their bounds.

I feel compassion for the forum moderator because he obviously is trying
to earn a living and it is clear he does not care for having to post
such a ridiculous message. Nor do I think that this is case of "bad
guys versus good". I think this is more a case of poor decision making
and habit.
Still.
This is not the only nonsense from Creative Labs either. Apparently,
they played some IP games with John Carmack as well.

Now John Carmack has a well earned reputation for being a serious coder
and a hard worker. While I know from experience that you can't rely on
hearsay ... if he gets into an argument with a company I'm a lot more
likely to give him the benefit of the doubt.
So I looked up some alternatives to Creative Labs for Linux users. This
is what I found so far:

If anyone has good suggestions I'd like to hear it. I don't want to see
any company go bankrupt, yes, even Microsoft. But I think that this is
one of those problem that can be solved very cleanly through healthy
competition. I don't believe in unrestrained competition by the way,
but when it applies, it applies.
