I did notice that the email came from one of the mail blasting services but I did not see that it was bugged, which now that you point it out, really pisses me off. I've about had it with ieee. They have emembership that worships them and my professor, Ping Chung, more or less begged me to join ieee. He accumulates these placks of accomplishments for his work in organizng dog a pony shows for ieee at liu, and I wanted to participate, but all I see is spam, and a ton of selfserving programs. I just don't see what possible benifit one can get from them. they are like a frateraty strapped to Amway.
Additionally, I'm looking over the email and I have no idea who the hell these guys are. Supposedly they are experts in Security and "Open SOurce" software and I've never heard of them. they want to you to sign up for a webcast ... ugggg on March 4th. You know what, nobody i would respect in IT would listen to such a webcast on March 4th.
Meanwhile, they sent me another email asking if I reached out to my local group yet. Really? I signed up with them and never got a single email. The LIU centered group insists that they have to do meetings on Friday evenings... There are no Jews in Brooklyn evidently.
Attached is the email i sent back to contact address that was in the email asking about local groups.
If there is a usefulness to ieee, I have yet to figure out the angle.

This is just another useless email from ieee.
The local society, I suppose is Dr Chung Ping'ss work at Long Island University. He schedules everything on Friday nights which is USELESS in NYC since so many of us are Jewish and at the Sabbath Table, and the rest of the city is drunk...
Stop. If you can't give me specifically useful information, then the ieee has no point. You tell me where the Brooklyn Chapter is and their schedule.
And please, stop sending html based mail. Between the html mail and the poorly designed website, you guys are driving me crazy.
You want to help me? I have a meeting on Thursday Night for the NYLXS Journal. You can show up and contribute a Journal article or do some editing.
