Yes but the chips needed to be infected to start with. If this was the case,
then you have a plethera of machines being recalled or hearing about it.
CMOS can easily be wiped by either removing the Lithium Ion battery....

Yes

But they happen, even in the older machines, the cmos get infected. In
fact, there was one manufacturer a few years ago which shipped a bunch of
infected chips sets out to the public. All bios have some capacity for
memory recall, otherwise they would have no options.


That being said, I doubt that is his problem.
