OK
I have no problems with you cancelling the conference. It's not my conference. I told BC the same thing last week when they were throwing things at me and telling me it was my confernece etc etc.
The published reports, acurate or not, are precieved by the public as coming from Redhat and a statement of RedHat policy.
It's up to RedHat to correct this, if they feel it is important.
It's up to responsible members of the community to correct the greater damage that was done to the tarnished image of the viability of Free Software Desktop in the eyes of the general public, which is an issue that goes much further than RedHat's business model or public statements. If RedHat or GNOME pulls out because of this because of precieved critism of published reports of statements of their employees and officers, then they're focusing their energy on the wrong parties. They need to have a conversation with their board, staff and public relations department.
