My name is Ruben Safir, and I'm a member of a local group called
NYers for Fairuse, http://www.nyfairuse.org. We've been active in the
in the education and discussion of the Digital Millenium Copyright Act of
This act is being used as a wedge to close libraries, exasperate the
and inhibit education. It also stifles the computer business and puts us
path to a 1984 Orweilian society. The American Acociation of Publishers,
help of Pat Schoeder, is using the act to close public libraries.
When I spoke the Congressman Weiner in Brooklyn, he asked if we could help
his staff become more informed on intellectual property issues, and we are
to help in this. I would like to request a scheduled date to go down to
discuss this with the staff. In the future, the Congressman might come
to us on this issue in NY after this meeting. We can probibly get a large
to come hear him speak on IP issues in NYC. Any time in January is fine
but a Friday meeting would need to be early.
