I could swear that that was the decision of the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, not of the Secretary of State.
Moreover, Syria had, as already mentioned, been an unstable powderkeg since the Sykes-Picot treaty of 1916 that created it. But, as likewise already mentioned, the idiots who lit the match for _both_ Iraq and Syria were Bush and Cheney. We had absolutely no business having any troops in Iraq at _all_.
