I have YDL 1.2 with kernel 2.2 installed on my TiBook.
I then rsynced the kernel sources and compiled a 2.4 kernel. There are also binary 2.4 kernels for different models.
It works, it's not prime-time. Sleep is still weird. Three button mouse not as nice as it could. But it works.
