Hello all,
I would like to have the first meeting of the new Government this coming Monday at 7:30 at the Killarney Rose. This is half-way between a board meeting and a general meeting, should be a board meeting but appointment to chair a sub-committee is automatic placement on the board, so the lines are more vague.
I know this is a bar, but I believe this is still the most accessible place for most of us. Plus there is no smoking anymore, so it may be more empty than ever ...
All new officers should try to come.
Preliminary agenda:
--We need to appoint new Committee Chairs. This would include a (short) description of the work done by each committee by the departing Chairs. There are several important and interesting sub-committees which are in need of new leadership, including the Journal, the FSI and the Free Software for Schools Committee.
--I am thinking of giving the head of the FSI a small stipend. As the FSI has been the primary generator of income and new members for NYLXS, it would be good to have a point man or woman to keep abreast of the scheduling and class space problems. It is remarkable that we have done so well so far, but a bit more organization could go really far.
--I know that there are many interesting developments in the Free Software for Schools Committee including a forthcoming meeting to present the benefits of Free Software to the Board of Ed, which needs careful preparation, but could be one of the bigger steps this committee will take.
--We need a location for a next Business Demo.
