I remember helping a friend with his server set up. He used all the 'big na= mes' (Verizon, RoadRunner, Optimum, etc.) with static IPs. They all swore t= hat they allowed users to run servers. They all made promises. Then it turn= s out, that you cannot run your own DNS with their services. You cant. They= do not allow it. They also monitor your activity and an disconnect you on = the slightest possibility that you are doing something illegal in their eye= (spam, even though you have your own large mailing list. Software piracy u= p/downloads- even though the group uses Open Source Free To Access Software= ! etc...)
He's switch to Speak Easy. And though he has had issues with SpeakEasy- but= nothing major. his big issue is that he's 100ft too far from connection to= get the speed that he wants. its been an On again / Off again issue. Your = deal may vary with them.
Another issue he has had is that the phone service with these IP deals knoc= ks down the service when you make or receive a call. Maybe its a modem issu= e, but that is how its been with him- make or receive a call- the servers g= o offline. End the call, they go back online.
