hangout is indeed a place for often roudy conversation, without censorship. However, it is not crackmonkey and the goal of hangout is not to flame each other. Never the less, your generally welcome to post whatever you choose to. And people who you work with will respond authentically to such writings, as with any conversation.
I will not, as a point of principle, use this public forum as a tool to humilate another member, which is a rule I've broken too often. But after 2 weeks, I believe you deserve a formal reply to your original message.
The access to the content of the web server is available to all the members thought their staff group. Anyone, espeicially board members, can edit and post anything to the NYLXS site, although you can expect feedback from the President or the Board, if the content is not framed like the rest of the site, or otherwise a problem with the overall objectives of the President. Our management of the content of the site in through communication and discussion, not technological autocracy.
Both the content of the webserver and a progamming system is readily available and built in, with the addition to access for the database back end, and source code for the current application.
I do not believe that anything in the current setup in an way deprives any member from excersizing their rights within the organization, or in any way inhibits their ability to speak, to be heard, or to exercise their vote. Nor does anything inhibit their ability to participate or contribute to the group.
However, since there are aqusations and objections, it would be best to move the server to another location off of my personal network, preferably to a permanent facility. Until that time, because the server is integrated into my personal local network, and running on my personal address space, I will continue to hold the only root password for the system. I'm working with the current President on that now.
At that time, another system administrator can be chosen. If that adminstrator is me, I will insist again on being the only person with the root password.
If it is another person, they can, of course, do what they feel is best.
Ruben
<<<"I've been given a lot to think about, 1st i will like to apologize to ruben for posting on NYLXS hangout "If this just slipped his mind all will be forgiven, but if this is a selfish act to control the democracy that attracted me to the group in the first place, this is a dark day." Even though I thought hangout allowed a no holds bar on the freedom of speech. I was also given an ultimatum by Ruben at the board meeting where he asked me to resign from the board or he will. I will resign my position from the NYLXS board and chairman of the education committee. As i was told i need a lot of growing so i decided to grow. Thanks to all the members of nylxs. I will continue to push and support Free software in education, on every desktop, for 3d. audio, and video editing, desktop publishing, and of course for servers.>>
