Unfortunately, I could not make the board meeting tonight. However, I have received additional late information from members of the GNOME board, and while there seems little likelyhood of hosting Gaudec itself, it seems quite possible they would endorse us hosting this year's "GNOME development summit" in NYC in November, which would help with possible sponsors.
Should NYLXS choose to take this challenge on, we can expect from 60-600 people to attend, assuming we do it correctly, which I think this organizationc an do. Based on that, and the need to at least come to some decision on whether NYLXS should host/help organize this event quickly, I am proposing to hold an emergency meeting Wed. evening at Kings Games, in Brooklyn. The purpose of this meeting will be to both summarize the operational details and requirements for hosting such an event, and to decisively conclude whether NYLXS should persue this particular opportunity or not. If we choose not to do so, that is perfectly fine. If we choose to hold this event, we will need to cover many things with many people by the start of next week, particularly to confirm a venue, and to address the question of sponsors.
