The counter proposal suggested by the GNOME board was to hold a seperate GNOME developer's event in NYC, perhaps in November, for US based developers, and retain Guadec proper in Europe. This appearently is consistent with what they did last year, which was to hold a seperate US based event in Boston (which I certainly never heard about). I understand their reluctance to drop the fact that it is a "European" conference, even if it fails to underscrore the fact that Guadec is has already become a worldwide conference. But I wish to hear the views of the NYLXS board and other members before going forward on any suggestion.
David
