Well, let's look at what people's perceptions are after their speech and your protest. I remain convinced that while the people there are going to be interested in Microsoft's appearance, they will be smart enough to apply their own filters and Free Software will not be damaged.
The free software movement is harmed greatly by the fact that the conference lumps us in under "open source". This is why the FSF will not participate. We will be damaged by our nonrecognition in this conference whether we participate or not--so we have to push for change.
If you believe that we need to talk about freedom more, please convert that belief with action. Please join me in telling Tony that future conferences must be "free software and open source" conferences. Dianne, who I believe he reports to at GWU, wrote me that this is Tony's decision to make. We just have to convince him to make it.
