NYLXS has maded repreated requests from Brett Wynnkoop and Jay Sulzberger to stop abusing NYLXS and to give us the domain NYLXS.org which they are illegally mirroring the NYLXS site with, and to stop using the NY Fair Use brand which I developed and have continually run for over a year and aa half.
NYLXS has offered a more than fair compromise to give them the NY Fair Use brand for the NYLXS domain.
The meeting tonight broke down when Brett refused to remove from the agreement a clause which would force NYLXS to lie that we're happy with the cybersquating happening on the NYLXS.org site.
Every member of the NYLXS board has asked Brett and Jay to return the domain, and to cut a deal, for over 6 months. This has resulted in increaing abuse by Jay and Brett dished out over the phone to nearly everyone ever involved with either NY Fair Use, or NYLXS, even people like Billy Donahoe, who has never been a member of either organzation.
In my elected position as NYLXS president, I'm asking for the community as a whole to turn the screws on this matter. This has to stop.
Specifically, we're asking anyone at all who has a website, or who can put up a website to create a link for NY Fair Use, pointing it at fairuse.nylxs.com
In addition, we are asking everyone to call Brett and Jay directly and tell them in no uncertain terms that regardless of any other disputes, the extortion of NYLXS through the abuse of the NYLXS Trademark and the withdholding of the NYLXS.org domain from the organization is behavior completely unacceptable of members of the community.
We are asking people to remove links for LXNY until the NYLXS.org domain, and the mailing lists which Mr Wynkoop is forcing on NYLXS to be returned to the organization immediately.
We ask that any presure or tool available to any of our friends, and those who admired our work for nearly 17 months, to take a moment out now to help put an end to this abuse of our core organizations, copyrights and Trademarks. We've given Jay and Brett month to make statements and to settle this matter.
This is the last step from this escalates into a court battle, wasting important resources better left fighting against DRM and for Free Software jobs.
Our settlment proposals are on the NYLXS website at http://www.nylxs.com/settlement
